The Easter Story
The Easter Story
Easter is a Christian Festival that celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. About 2000 years ago Jesus decided that he would wander around the countryside, along with 12 other disciples preaching religious reform and the love of God for his people. Why, you might ask? When Jesus was a young man, he saw the suffering of the people of Palestine under the oppressive( difficult to bear with) rule of Herod’s sons, and the Roman procurators.
He was very concerned with the welfare of the poor and the people who were ruled harshly, and spoke against the hypocrisy of the privileged and the rich. Many people such as the Pharisees, Jewish scholars very strongly opposed, and didn’t believe in his beliefs and teachings. Jesus was loved and respected by the common people who looked upon him as a long-awaited hero. Although, as the number of his followers and his influence with the people grew, the jewish and roman authorities began to think Jesus was a big trouble maker. A few days later Jesus was taken to the home of the High Priest where the priests demanded that he be killed by the The Pharisees, the priests and the Romans. They had plotted to execute Jesus. Jesus, was taken to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. Pilate declared that he could not sentence him for he saw no evil in him. Later Pilate gave into the enemies demands and declared that Jesus be sentenced to death, by hanging him on a cross.
